Learning Shag Swing Dancing

Another form of dance that is becoming popular and practised around the nation is Shag swing dancing.There is a confusion among the people regarding the differences between shag and swing. Although they are very similar, there is a distinct difference. With swing, the man always leads. With shag, the man and woman take turns leading the dance. Both swing and shag are done to the same music and follow the same beat patterns, making it easy to learn variations once you've memorized the beat patterns and the steps.

There are basic elements of shag and swing that can help you get a good introduction to these forms of dance. Although these forms of dance are casual and relaxed you must follow the right bodily posture and learn the foundations of different dances. Dances are composed of a series of steps which follow a certain pattern. There are lots of different moves with creative names like the Sugar Push, Release, Throwout, Tuck In, Whirlwind, Windmill, Side Pass and so many more. Which is why even though swing and shag are predictable things can get confusing if you don't have good instruction.

The good news is that most any swing dancing studio can teach shag as the two styles are basically the same. You will likely find beginner, intermediate and advanced classes in your local area for dancers of all skill levels. Swing has experienced a definite resurgence in popularity with clubs, classes and competitions popping up today as frequently as they did during the Golden Age of swing. Enthusiasts enjoy the social structure, fun costumes and energetic style of swing. Not only that, but the music's not half bad, either!

Shag swing dancing classes are more affordable than ever because they're more widespread. When you sign up for lessons, make sure you've got a good pair of dance shoes. Most classes are not conducted in costume, however there are plenty of opportunities to get all dressed up and go dancing. You might have a swing themed club in your area, but if not, it's likely one or more of your local clubs offers a swing dance night or more than one throughout the week. This type of dance is fun, romantic, exciting and provides great exercise. So don't wait, try it for yourself!
